Statement:
I'm interested in the culture, languages and rules that are synonymous with recording and communication technologies, using these tools of mediation to play with their conventions. My interests are in the contradictions and conflicts that arise when trying to re-present our perceived world through another medium. Through a process of experimentation i investigates our understanding of distance, space & time and how an action or object relates to the sound it makes. The technology not only documents the enquiry but also becomes part of the work. Representation and the notion of ‘truth’ are at the core of my practice, adopting scientific or anthropological methods I make installations, sculptural objects, performances, videos and wall based works that comment on the absurdity of the technology giving the work an element of playfulness and humour.

Biography:
I have performed at The London Musicians Collective 16th Annual Experimental Music Festival and The 7th International Computer Arts Festival, Slovenia. In 2006 i was commissioned to produce new work for a solo show at Cornerhouse, Manchester. Other exhibitions have included Future50, Project Space Leeds, Globe Gallery, North Shields. Awards include an Arts Council Fellowship in Colima, Mexico and an Artsadmin Mid-Career Bursary see www.boblevene.co.uk for more information.

Utö and the Archipelago

http://www.petemcpartlan.co.uk/?p=231

“Imaginary Archipelago

The islands from old sketchbooks re-emerged on arrival to Turku after looking at all the maps of the Archipelago, it seemed like these drawings had been lying dormant waiting for me to come here. They now actually seem to make some sense, where as before they were almost an exercise in composition, randomness and mark making. I won’t go into this too much here as I think it’s worth an essay or two, instead I drew a diagram to explain all the connections that seem to have come together.”
