TOK JA ARTE RY YHTEISTYÖSSÄ HOTELLITAIDEPROJEKTISSA: ARTE HAMBURGER BÖRSISSÄ VUODEN 2011 JUHAN HUONE – A ROOM WITH JOHN on projekti, joka esittelee turkulaista aikalaistaidetta Börs Tavoitteena on jatkuvaluonteinen ja eräänlainen kulttuuripääkaupunkivuoden mukana elävä taideprojekti, jonka ohjelmistoa kehitetään vuoden mittaan.
Mukana on liki 200 teosta noin 80 artelaiselta taiteilijalta. Vuonna 1984 Arte perusti ensimmäisen oman galleriansa Joe’sin Läntiselle Rantakadulle.Galleria toimi puolitoista vuotta. Vuodesta 1988 eteenpäin Arten galleriana on toiminut Galleria Titanik Itäisellä Rantakadulla. Anneli Nygren on lisäksi toteuttanut useita videokoosteita Arten historiaan liittyen. Näyttelyyn liittyy monipuolisesti oheisohjelmaa kuten keskustelutilaisuuksia, performansseja, koko perheen työpajoja ja taiteilijatapaamisia. The Wäinö Aaltonen Museum’s exhibition year starts by celebrating the 50th anniversary of the The Big Picture – Arte’s 50th anniversary exhibition 29.1.–2.5.2010 Arte was founded in 1960, in a situation where Turku artists were frustrated with the activities of the local artists’ association, Turun taiteilijaseura. Arte’s founder members felt that the association, which represented many different fields of art, was unable to give sufficient support to the visual arts. In 1984 Arte founded their first own gallery, Joe’s on Läntinen Rantakatu street. The gallery operated for one and a half years. From 1988 on, Galleria Titanik on Itäinen Rantakatu served as Arte’s gallery. Arte’s activities in the 2000s have been characterised by many joint and City art projects, Responsible for the choice of works for The Big Picture exhibition are 7 artist-curators appointed by Arte – Suvi Aarnio, Minna-Maija Lappalainen, Reino Koivula, Harro Koskinen, Kimmo Ojaniemi, Visa Suonpää and Sanna Syvänen, cooperating with the Museum. The exhibition can also be seen as examining the concept of curatorship, as each of the curators has approached their own decade from an individual, slightly different angle. In addition, Anneli Nygren has produced ´several video compilations relating to Arte’s history. In connection with the exhibition there will be a versatile programme of events, including
876 Shades of Darkness 876 Shades of Darkness consists of several smaller undertakings, which portray darkness as a positive Nordic resource. Darkness can also be enjoyed and it can bring one a sense of calm. The central idea is that culture belongs to everyone and everywhere: culture shall be brought into the streets, the parks and away from the centre. The majority of the events will have no admission charge in order to ensure that anyone and everyone that is interested is able to participate. The programme involves art, science, theatre, working together and retreating for quiet time on one's own. Each portion of the project emphasises the beauty, special qualities and positive power of darkness and silence. The overall project is divided into three themes: Experiencing darkness, Lighting up the dark and Shadow of darkness. ---------------------------------- Artists' Association Arte was founded in 1960. Originally formed as an exhibition group with vigorously expressed opinions, it has turned into an association of professional visual artists operating mostly in the city of Turku, Finland. The main purpose of the association is to promote visual arts in the city as well as to improve the professional, social and economical benefits of the artists living in Turku and the nearby areas. Arte actively takes part in the art discussions and brings up questions which are important for the artists. The social situation of the artists, studio situation in Turku, communal politics and art purchase of the institutions and museum as well as are important matters. Artists’ Association Arte arranges interesting exhibitions and cultural events. Gallery Titanik, At the moment Arte Association has about 90 members, all professional artists, mostly living in Turku but some as far away as in Vietnam and Australia. Arte consists of e.g. painters, printmakers, sculptors, performance artists, animators, video artists and photographers. Many of Arte’s members are well-known both nationally and internationally, but the association also provides good opportunities for young promising artists to develop their careers. Arte is an active artists’ association, and although it’s already middle aged, its mind is still fresh and young! |
Presentation on Thursday Being a sound artist, I move between the fields of experimental music to sound art. For me, sound is both material and form. It is ready to be deformed and to be reform. I am interested in the materiality of sound and giving my pieces a physical voicing. For the exhibition Splits of Light, I will present sound sculptures associated to the somatic senses and the human body. Prior to the exhibition opening, I invite you cordially to a presentation of my sound works and music in Titanik Gallery. Dennis Tan is a sound artist and musician living and working in Germany. He was born in Singapore and moved to Bremen, Germany to study fine arts. As an artist, he works with sound sculptures, installations and creates strategies for performances. As a musician one would describe his music as sine waves mediation, noises and abstract.
