BLIND SIGHT

an exploration and study of the relationship between visual art and sound within the format of the compact disc. Both Scotland and Finland have visual cultures which thrive on linkages between image and sound; from early myth to contemporary sonic and visual art.
This exhibition will benifit from a parallel presentation
of these comparative cultural topographies
on the fringes of Northern Europe.

50 artists (25 Scottish and 25 Finnish) were invited to submit a CDR recording ( 5 min.max.) to be installed as a jukebox presentation. Each artist  also designed a CD cover to be installed in the presentation. The Cd is a familiar, portable artifact that can demonstrate inherent links between audio and visual art on a variety of levels.
This exhibition / presentation will investigate these links across a broad range of approaches, displaying works by artists who work both in sonic and visual material; giving them the opportunity to create new piece within the temporal and spatial frame of the compact disc.

Curators of the exhibition:
Edward Summerton & Norman Shaw / Scotland
